My much-loved memory of being a kid is a recurring one: coming to my gran’s home in Manchester for Christmas. She had whatever I always wanted we had at house in London: a yappy bit dog, sky TV as well as dishes of boiled sweets scattered around her warm, cosy house.
Whether it included Christmas or not, I’m sure it wouldn’t take much for you to recall your much-loved memory of being a child.
Perhaps a holiday with household or playing out with friends? These are the most likely, which I can tell you with authority since at ActionAid, where I work, we surveyed the nation’s memories from youth as well as the results were full of family, buddies as well as fun.
More than a third (36%) of UK adults treasured their memories of youth friendship – naming it the most crucial youth memory. Meanwhile, playing outside was named as the most fun memory of growing up (36%), carefully complied with by holidays by a lot more than a quarter of respondents (27%).
We posed similar concerns to celebrities, a few of whom –Yvette Fielding, Heidi Range, Jodie Whittaker, Ben Miles as well as Olivia Colman – took part in a picture shoot re-enacting their much-loved memories from childhood. enjoy a two-minute behind-the-scenes video here:
But while the survey results as well as picture shoot were fun as well as nostalgic, our motivation for sharing much-loved youth memories was a severe as well as crucial one.
Many contemporary conflicts last the length of an entire childhood. kids in war-torn countries can be psychologically traumatised; lots of have seen members of their household die as well as believed they would die too.
In short, kids in dispute lose their youth to war as well as its after-effects.
ActionAid’s #REBUILD campaign as well as broader kid sponsorship programme allow us to do crucial work in war-affected countries, providing kids the fundamentals they requirement such as water, food as well as an education.
Throughout the #REBUILD campaign in particular, which runs up until Christmas, we’re intending to safe a lot more than 2,200 new UK kid sponsors for kids in war-affected countries including Afghanistan, the democratic Republic of Congo, Liberia as well as Sierra Leone.
